Sparking and Promoting Academic Radiology Careers, or SPARC, is a three-day program from ARRS designed to introduce PGY2 and PGY3 radiology residents to the many opportunities in academic radiology. The SPARC program will take place Monday, April 13 through Wednesday, April 15 during ARRS 2026 in Pittsburgh, PA. Participants will receive a $1,000 stipend payable to their institution to support their involvement following the completion of the program.

Attendees will receive insights from academic radiologists on how to chart a career path, seek employment in academia, and explore hybrid public-academic roles. They will also receive mentorship from experienced faculty, participate in career focus groups, and learn about critical topics in the field. The program also covers building a strong CV, promotion considerations, and balancing work-life transitions. Panel discussions and networking will offer exposure to diverse career paths and guidance from experienced academic radiologists.

SPARC participants will also receive access to the ARRS Annual Meeting, including recorded content available for up to a year, extending their education beyond the program.  The application for the 2026 program in Pittsburgh will open August 1, 2025. SPARC’s goal is to provide insight, mentoring, and career direction, which might otherwise be absent in their training curricula. Promotion of numerous diverse career arcs, incorporating teaching, research, and other leadership skills, will be coupled with networking opportunities between participants and with faculty members.
